Topic: Health Care and You

Requirements: An application along with one short literary composition on one of the topics listed below:

A) How do you plan to impact the lives of others with a career in health care?

B) Describe a situation in which someone you knew needed healthcare. How did you help? What did you learn from this experience?

C) What interests you most concerning a career in healthcare?

D) What aspects of the current health care system in the United States, would you like to see change? What specific changes would you recommend? Why?

Prizes:

1st Place winners will receive a scholarship to DRM International Learning Center’s CNAplus™ Program!! Our premier program not only prepares you to become a Certified Nurse’s Aide, but also includes provides 4 additional exciting classes in: Restorative Nursing, Dementia Care, End-of-Life care, and Medication Administration. That’s a value to $4,829, not to mention an exhilarating new beginning to your career in the healthcare industry!

2nd Place winners will receive a scholarship to DRM International Learning Center’s Certified Nursing Assistant program along with an exciting class, including clinical practice in Dementia/Alzheimer’s Care. In our state certified CNA program, students will learn all the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the Certified Nurse’s Aide examination in addition, will receive BLS CPR certification through the American Heart Association. Our Dementia/ Alzheimer’s program offers the most up to date knowledge and trends in Dementia Care. This is a $2,125 value!

3rd Place winners will earn a scholarship to DRM International Learning Center’s Certified Nursing Assistant program!! In this state certified program, students will learn all the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the Certified Nurse’s Aide examination and embark on an exciting new career in healthcare. Students will also receive BLS CPR certification through the American Heart Association. This is a $1,223 value!

Judging

All submissions will be judged based on the following criteria:
1. Understanding of the topic
2. Style- writing should be engaging and free from spelling or grammatical errors
3. Creativity

Rules:

1. All essays must be original student work; typed 500 words or less.
2. Each applicant must submit an application, attached to their essay.
3. All essays and accompanying applications must be mailed, post marked no later than
Friday April 13, 2011, to:

4. Final results will be announced May 2011.

All essays will become the property of DRM ILC; will not be returned and may be used for promotional purposes. Employees of DRM International Learning Center, its board members, and their immediate family members are not eligible to enter. We look forward to reading your submissions and - Good Luck!! We ask that you, please, not submit duplicate essays!

If you wish to verify that we have received your essay, please attach a stamped, self addressed postcard to your essay; we will mail it back to you upon receipt.

Winners will be notified by mail of the contest decision by May 4, 2012.
